A/B/C Punch Classification Helper

Use the next project gate, the observed condition and its technical consequence to obtain an indicative punch category and closure requirement.

Indicative classification model

Punch letters and definitions vary between projects. This helper uses A, B and C as indicative labels for blocking, controlled-outstanding and close-out conditions. The project’s approved punch procedure and acceptance authority govern the formal classification.

A — Blocking
Prevents safe execution, compromises protection, invalidates the required activity or evidence, leaves the system condition uncontrolled, or prevents meaningful acceptance.
B — Controlled outstanding
May remain for the defined activity only with understood limitations, assigned ownership, accepted controls and a closure plan.
C — Close-out
Does not affect safety, function, protection, test validity, required evidence or the accepted condition for the selected gate.
Unable to classify — technical review required
The information is incomplete, uncertain, contradictory or outside the helper’s controlled decision model.
